Was just thinking that humor as an entity can't be independent of a tinge of sadism. From Charlie Chaplin to the funny videos to the stand up comedies - there is a constant factor: of ridicule or of a difficulty posed to somebody other than you. We laugh with an implicit gratuity that we are not featuring in that misery. If the same is reflected on you, you will take as an insult and precisely why somebody else will laugh at you..

So let us not be apologetic about sadism as a trait. The fact that we laugh today is largely based on that and it is an essential ingredient for a 'healthy society'
